In the Shadow of the Mosque

Had a great morning out in Westridge today, teaching street art evangelism and then doing a prac - taking groups of artists out to paint in a local market...a real Cape Flats Soukh.

We pitched our first group in what turned out to be the shadow of a huge mosque - what had appeared to be just another part of the large shopping centre turned out to be completely given over to a mosque.

This way of doing evangelism is extremely pleasant - no shouting involved, no pressure.  You either are curious about the picture or you can let it alone.  And it is usually extremely effective.  TOday it was strangely quiet as people seemed afraid to show any interest.  A very different experience for us.

But I would love to back.  Unlikely, seeing as it is a 45 minute drive from home.  But the group seemed very keen to get back to their neighbourhood market.  I will be delighted to hear that they actually do - there is usually more talk about evangelism than action.  But that is what this is about - empowering people to reach out to their localities; one of Serving Strangers' key .
