reflections on 56 hours outdoors

Over the last month I have spent a great deal of time outdoors, doing nothing, loitering with  intent.  As I have lounged in the shade on my easy chair or pottered around with fishing line, wire and pliars, I have met and interacted with a fantastic range of people whom I would never have met inside our church building.  Here are some of the 80+ people I spoke to:

Annette, a Jewish friend who I met earlier this year when she had a back spasm outside our church; and her son Gary
Brian, a well wisher from a nearby church (who also complains to the police abpout the noise that emanates from our church)
A young woman with an aloe - it was her birthday
A mother and child from Colombia
A Granny visiting from the USA
A young man who thought that it all looked "bad ass"
A young poet called Isaiah ("Easy" for short)
Tessa and her three children
A lady in a wheel chair
Phumzile the security guard who turned up with his lock-up van ready to lock me up if I was selling anything but went away with a different perspective on Christmas
Clifton and JUlia who observed me for a few hours
Ruth, an 11 year old who has just passed grade seven, and her mother who uses her to beg
Kenneth Nchana the Pedi man who works in Woolworths management
Lionel May the Seventh Day Adventist barbershop quartet specialist
Mark, who is deaf, and his cute daughter Jemma
Owen the street sweeper and charcoal artist
Allen the Mathematician and journalist who lives in Dubai

There were many more - this is just a sampling from my prayer list. SOme of them came to our outdoor carol service. Obviously I can't include any photos; but I can ask you to pray that many of these people will start (or continue, obviously!) on the journey of discovery that leads to Jesus
