The Gift of Aging Parents

It is such a precious gift that in Martin's family we are not yet the oldest generation!  The wisdom and love of parents is very precious.
It is a gift that comes increasing with challenges though.
Recently Martin's dad, Phillip, contracted the flu which quickly turned to pneumonia.  In quick succession Martin's mom, Cynthia, and Martin and I all succumbed to the flu bug.  Martin is still recovering from pneumonia.
The effect on the three of us has been dismal days ... but Phillip, at 92, has taken a physical and mental tumble down the stairs of old age.  He just hasn't got out of bed.  He spent three days in hospital getting the Warfarin levels in his blood sorted out.  Since his return we find he needs constant care as his visits to the bathroom are hazardous.  He doesn't eat anymore, but fortunately enjoys his "protein supplement" drink.
Cynthia is worn out by all the worry.

After considerable thought and talk and anxiety we decided to look for a place where he could be cared for.  The wonder is that there was a bed available in a beautiful gracious care home less than 5 km from our house.  We are grateful to God for this provision.
Dad will be moving there tomorrow ...
